Pinehurst School student makes golfing history

Pinehurst Senior College student a world number one amateur, Lydia Ko, has made world history and beaten top golf professionals to win the 2012 NSW Open.  Ko has made the history books, not only as the youngest player to win the event but, as the youngest golfer in the world to ever win a professional event.

This incredible achievement comes just one week after she won the Australian Amateur title in Melbourne, also making her the youngest golfer to win the event since its inception 118 years ago.

In front of a large international crowd, Ko came in to the win the tournament by four shots over Welsh player, Becky Morgan, who took home the major prize money as Ko, due to her amateur status, is unable to accept payment.

Ko has been turning heads in the golfing world during her short but outstanding amateur career.  With a strong of wins in 2011, Ko, at just 14 years, is an inspiration to fellow students who continues to focus on school work while rewriting world history.

Congratulations Lydia.
