The school has close links with St James Anglican Church in The School All prospective students attend an interview with a senior staff member with a view to being offered a place by the Principal. No girl is offered a place unless the school has the resources to meet her needs. This ensures that while students with special needs are catered for, the quality of education of other students is not compromised. It also ensures class sizes remain low and the attitudes and behaviour of new students is appropriate. Academically Chilton is a nationally recognised institution and every year we have 90% success in NCEA Level 1 and 2 pass rates. In 2009 16 scholarships were won by students across 10 disciplines and a number of students also have success in our university programmes. Almost all girls go on to tertiary education from The roll is predominately European with another 16 ethnic groups represented. The school believes that the world of the future is international and has programmes set up to give students the chance to experience cultural differences and develop cultural understanding. This includes enrolling international students, international student exchanges (both individual and group) and actively encouraging sister school arrangements. School does not finish at 3.30 pm, but offers a wide range of opportunities through After School Programmes including classical ballet, jazz and contemporary dance classes. With the Choral and Science and Curriculum Chilton’s aim is to give every girl a broad, well-balanced general education. We encourage girls to study a wide range of subjects to keep open as many career options as possible. Senior students are participating in NCEA. A learning support co-ordinator closely analyses each student’s achievement levels and sets up extension and support programmes where appropriate.
