Foundation

Diocesan School was established in 1903, and founded on the Anglican faith. It has a proud heritage of excellence in all aspects of girls’ education, a strong ethical foundation and a harmony between tradition and innovation that underlies all aspects of the School.

Entry Levels

The main intakes are Year 1, Year 7, Year 9 and Year 11. However students are accepted at any level where a place is available.

The School

Diocesan students enjoy park like grounds and excellent outdoor recreational spaces in a central Auckland location close to motorways and public transport.

At the heart of the School are the historic Chapel, School Hall and School House. Our campus offers many leading edge facilities, including a purpose built Junior School, Science laboratories, the 70 classroom equivalent Centennial building, student cafetaria and Senior common room building.  In February 2009 we opened our state of the art new indoor Aquatic Centre, comprising of a main pool, learner pool, fitness centre and 380 seat spectator gallery.

in 2010 we will commence work on an all-weather artificial turf and underground carpark, followed by a world-class 1800 seat Performing Arts Centre; thus completing our excellent sports and performing arts facilities.

Pastoral Care

Our comprehensive pastoral care includes counselling, health, chaplaincy services, careers advice, a buddy system and peer mediators. The School Code of Conduct focuses on the core values of Service, Tradition, Achievement and Respect.

The Curriculum

Diocesan’s educational philosophy centres on excellence in all aspects of schooling. Our academic vision is to foster a lifelong love of learning, and to ensure that each student’s education stays relevant to their needs in our increasingly global society.

Our Junior School (Years 1-6) focuses strongly on core subjects as well as offering special teaching in French, Science, Technology, Music, Health, Physical Education and Art. It also offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).

From Year 8, students are immersed in a full digital learning programme with their own laptops.
 

Our IB Diploma and NCEA programmes offer senior students a dual educational pathway so they can choose the qualification that best meets their individual needs in an increasingly global society. The IB Diploma for
Year 12 and 13 enables students to enter some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Extra Curricular Activities

We encourage students to develop their talents, and balance their academic study by becoming involved in extra curricular activities in performing arts and/or sports.

The performing arts of drama, dance and music - including choirs, orchestras, bands, annual shows, are a well established and dynamic part of Diocesan.

We offer a range of sports codes and have a rich history of achievement, with many students succeeding nationally and internationally.
