Foundation
Huntley School is an Anglican School founded in 1896 and is situated in eleven hectares of grounds located one kilometre from Marton.

The School
All members of the Huntley School family share a common vision – to seek to develop in each boy, self respect and respect for others based upon clearly-stated Christian values, while striving for excellence in his academic, cultural and sporting pursuits.

The school is small enough to create a close friendly atmosphere with most teaching staff living on site, but large enough to ensure full development of a boy in a challenging environment where excellence in every endeavour is the norm rather than the exception.

The excellent facilities include a classroom and administration block (eight classrooms renovated in 1998 including a full computer network); an Arts and Technology Centre inclusive of a theatre, an art studio, a music suite, a computer laboratory, and a workshop technology room; a full-sized gymnasium; multiple sports fields; seven tennis courts; a solar-heated swimming pool; a renovated dormitory block; and seven staff houses.

The Curriculum
The school follows the basic New Zealand curriculum where class teachers take the core subjects, but specialist teachers augment an innovative classroom programme with classes in art, technology, science, music, workshop technology and physical education. Boys are taught in small (maximum: 21) classes, offering individualised programmes to boys of all abilities.

Sporting and Cultural Activities
Huntley believes that an involvement in the arts is a vital part of a boy’s education and he is encouraged to be fully involved making full use of the Arts and Technology Centre (built 1996). Seventy percent of the boys receive individual tuition in a wide variety of musical instruments and the school has an orchestra, a number of ensemble groups, many rock bands, and four choirs.

Boys have their confidence and competence developed in a wide range of outdoor pursuits; learning and building on the skills of cricket, tennis, rugby, soccer, hockey, badminton, table-tennis, indoor basketball, swimming, athletics, and many recreational activities. An extensive outdoor education programme is featured as are a host of extra-curricular activities where boys are introduced to a broad and varied set of experiences. Huntley teams compete in many sports, in many places, and at many levels, enjoying an enviable sporting record.

Scholarship and Bursaries
Two forms of financial assistance are available to parents:
(a) Scholarships – are awarded on the basis of academic merit from sitting scholarship exams. These are financed from Trust funds held by the Board for this purpose.

(a) Headmaster's Scholarships – These are awarded at the discretion of the Headmaster and usually are awarded for all round ability in academics, sport, and music.

(b) Assistance Bursaries – are granted to assist a boy to attend Huntley School who may not otherwise have the opportunity. These are funded from grants made from the school from private trusts. A written request should be made to the Headmaster.
