Tel: 03 351 6169 Foundation After their retirement in 1955, the School Trust Board was formed and a policy of carefully controlled expansion has been maintained. Today, the school, extending well beyond the original two hectares, features modern facilities and maintains Medbury's traditional values and strong spirit. The Vision To offer a challenging, enjoyable and quality learning environment for the "vital years" combining traditional values and modern technologies. The School Medbury specialises in boys' education. Boys need and like structure and order. They need to belong, and flourish when they are confident in their environment and comfortable with their peers. We believe it is essential to establish a good work ethic. Boys are expected to write neatly, set out their work carefully, keep a diary and organise their homework, and be able to listen and articulate their thoughts. Medbury focuses on the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy. Medbury believe that "a boy with values is a boy set for life". The school motto, "Play the Game" is an important feature of Medbury daily life. It sets the standard for all behaviour and attitude, whether in class, on the playing field, in social interaction and beyond the school gates. The Medbury Family is made up of several organisations which work together for the benefit and development of the School and its boys. These include the Trust Board, The Foundation, The Parents' Association and the Old Boys' Association. The Curriculum Medbury continues to have a strong academic reputation. From Reception to Year 4 the foundations are laid for a broad and balanced education. Medbury offers a stimulating and caring environment, catering for each boy's physical, mental and spiritual needs. Specialist teaching is available at all levels in particular areas. As boys move into Years 5 and 6 they continue with the strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. In the Sporting and Cultural Activities Medbury has a fine sporting reputation and sport is an integral part of Medbury life. The boys are encouraged to play sport at a level where they can compete and enjoy. The school fields a wide range of sports teams, traditional and modern, including our own teams for Saturday competition. We recognise promoting teamwork and good sportsmanship, and this reflects the ethos of "Play the Game". The performing arts are a thriving part of life at Medbury boys' art work features around the school, in art exhibitions and competitions. Pastoral Care Medbury has a long-standing association with the Parish of Fendalton at St Barnabas Church. We aim to nurture spiritual growth. The school's house system fosters the spirit of competition and allegiance, encourages older boys to assist and act as role models for the younger boys, and gives each boy a responsibility to the other members of his House. This system teaches empathy and compassion. Teachers are available to listen, to understand, and to support.
