Foundation
Rangitaiki Independent School was founded in 2001 at Coastlands, Whakatane.

The School
Rangitaiki Independent School is situated on 2.3 hectares of land in a coastal subdivision, five minutes from Whakatane. Two modern buildings provide spacious teaching areas for up to 100 students. There are large playing fields and a hardcourt area is in development. The roll has grown from 21 pupils (in February 2001) to 70 to begin in 2003. This fast growth testifies to the high quality education provided by the school.

Curriculum
The school teaches the New Zealand national curriculum in Years 1–10. There is an emphasis on numeracy and literacy with a focus on individual students’ needs supported by quality resources.

High quality programmes challenge each pupil to achieve. A wide range of thinking tools and strategies are the basis of this special learning community. Teaching intelligent behaviours, inquiry learning, multiple intelligences and problem solving skills are a core part of all programmes.

Sporting opportunities are provided through involvement in the Rangitaiki Schools cluster. Students participate in Top School, hockey, soccer, touch, athletics and swimming sports.

Specialist teaching is provided for Music, Japanese and Spanish. The school is developing music programmes based around the marimba. Students have the opportunity to participate in operettas and variety concerts.

Regular celebrations of work are held. Students take pride in sharing their learning and achievements with their parents and family. Rangitaiki Independent School students develop into confident, focused considerate young people.
