Foundation
Founded in 1878, Marsden aims to provide a warm, caring Christian environment that encourages all students to reach their potential. Programmes encourage academic excellence, social and technological skills, confidence and leadership ability, spiritual growth, creativity and the enhancement of individual talents as girls prepare for success beyond school.

The Curriculum
Outstanding teachers encourage students to achieve individual academic excellence across a broad range of disciplines. Marsden students gain consistently high academic results in external examinations and Cambridge International AS and A Levels as well as New Zealand qualifications are offered. Special features include the widespread use of computer technology, Internet and multimedia across the curriculum; learning support and ESOL programmes, and education outside the classroom. Senior School provides, within a freer, more adult environment, electives, lectures, lunch hour addresses, seminars and tutorials which introduce students to tertiary teaching approaches. Marsden is a lead school in Wellington for ICT.

The School
Situated in park-like grounds in residential Karori, Marsden has six tennis courts, an all-weather surface, a sports field and a large gymnasium, which enable the school to provide for over thirty codes of summer and winter sports. A fine auditorium with tiered seating and smart technology, provides an excellent venue for music and drama productions. Well-equipped music, art and technology departments support the curriculum and all science is taught in well-equipped laboratories. The Lower School features outstanding facilities for primary school students. Spacious common rooms offer senior students an excellent study and leisure environment.

Sporting and Cultural Activities
Marsden students have a 90% participation rate in team and individual sports. Over 70 sport teams compete in inter-school competitions. Drama and film-making are popular with students as is Stage Challenge. The creative arts flourish. In music, there are choirs, orchestra, handbell ringing, jazz, musical composition, choral competitions and Church services. In art, painting, printmaking, design, pottery, sculpture, clothing and photography are offered, while creative writing, debating and public speaking are strengths in the English department.

Partnership with Parents/Caregivers
At Marsden we believe that student learning is enhanced through a positive partnership with parents, and regular communication between home and school is encouraged.

Scholarships
Scholarships are offered to girls entering Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12. An Old Girls’ scholarship at Year 9 is available to the daughter, grand-daughter or great-grand-daughter of an Old Girl. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of examinations and interviews held in Term II. The Helen Davidson Scholarship is awarded to a girl entering Year 12, who is not currently attending Marsden.
