Address: Foundation The School Scots College is five minutes from Wellington airport and is situated on level landscaped surroundings with playing fields and gracious buildings. Special facilities in the Secondary School include a careers centre, lecture theatre, seminar rooms, and a graphics suite. A new visual arts complex was built in 2004 and has state of the art learning facilities including specialist areas for science, art, design and a well equipped information centre. There is also a college music suite and a fully equpped gymnasium. The Secondary School is divided into eight houses each with a House Dean and four assistant House Deans who accept responsibility for the welfare and progress of each boy within their house. In the Prep School the role of pastoral care and monitoring of progress is the responsibility of the class (form room) teacher. Parents are always welcome to see the House Deans or the class teachers in the Prep School if they have concerns. Scots accepts a limited number of international students and provides an accredited ESOL programme. The College also offers 5 and 7 day boarding in Gibb House. The boarding house is under the direction of the Housemaster and an assistant Housemaster, plus a Matron and tutors, all of whom are resident. The College is about to embark on two projects that will further enhance and take the delivery of its educational experience to another level. Construction has recently begun on a Creative and Performing Arts Centre, which will house specialist areas dedicated to Music, Drama and Art, and additional space for Creative Technology. This state-of-the-art facility will enable the creative talents of our students to be enhanced and maximised. It will be completed at the end of 2011. The College will also shortly begin construction of a Covered Sports Centre. This world-class indoor facility will elevate the sporting potential of the College by providing a space where sporting skills can be honed, and will allow sporting programmes to continue irrespective of weather. These projects complete the all-round offering at Scots by enabling students to reach their potential through the provision of leading-edge facilities and educational courses. The Curriculum In 2009 Scots became an accredited IB World School, and in 2010 introduced the IB Diploma qualification to Year 12 students. The IB Diploma is a two-year pre-university course which offers students in Years 12 and 13 an alternative to NCEA. Scots has also begun the implementation of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). Sporting and Activities A full range of summer and winter sports is offered at both inter-school and inter-House level. There is an outdoor education programme. The College also supports the Young New Zealanders Challenge Scheme with all Year 9 boys being enrolled. A well-equipped music suite allows for a variety of musical activities, including a pipe band, with debating and public speaking also being fostered alongside drama and performing arts.
