The School
Founded in 1917, St Andrew’s College, in the heart of Merivale, Christchurch, is the only independent co-educational primary and secondary school in the South Island. A Presbyterian school that focuses on Christian values, St Andrew’s is at the forefront of education with outstanding teachers, facilities and a positive, caring environment.

The most natural way for children to learn is in a safe family environment and that’s what we offer at St Andrew’s. The college offers a balanced and holistic education in an environment steeped in tradition and yet firmly facing the challenges of the future.

Centred on the historic Strowan House, the grounds (13 hectares) at St Andrew’s are spacious and beautiful and the buildings are modern. These excellent buildings and learning centres include a 2000sq.m RDH Steel Technology Centre, a senior college centre, library resource centre, music performance centre, fine arts and photography centre, film and television studio, Castle Hill outdoor education centre, boarding houses and the college farm.

A student services department provides a range of services, caring for all students, including pastoral care, health, life skills, learning development, guidance, counselling, chapel, community service, careers advice, vocational studies and work exploration.

Boarding at St Andrew's is a special experience which offers your daughter or son a unique opportunity to learn to live with people from other backgrounds, cultures and countries and to make friends and contacts for life. Our boarding students are a very important part of the St Andrew's family. We have accommodation for 155 boarders.

The Curriculumn
St Andrew's has an excellent academic tradition and places major emphasis on the development of well balanced all-rounders, well-equipped to play a positive role in New Zealand's future and on an international scale.

Sports and Cultural Activities
Over 40 different sports and activities are offered from traditional sports such as netball and rugby to ice hockey, sailing and pipe band. Performing arts is an integral part of the college culture with an emphasis on drama and dance, film and TV and music. Our stage band and pipe bands are performance based, high profile and in high demand for public occasions.

Scholarships and Bursaries
Academic, music, pipe band and general scholarships are offered to students. Several bursaries for financial assistance are also available.
