Tel: 06 349 0298 Address: Foundation The School The Curriculum Therefore the Learning Styles approach, using the Dunn and Dunn model, is being developed as a way of individualising instruction. At the same time, Intelligent Behaviours (Art Costa) and Thinking Maps (David Hyerle) are used to teach thinking and problem solving skills. Portfolios are used by both staff and pupils to monitor their learning. Overall, the school is a learning organisation geared for continuous improvement. The use of ICT in all curriculum areas is a feature of the school which is fully networked with thin client workstations. There are also two computer suites and staff and pupils have access to a large range of software resources. Recent developments here have seen the school providing ICT training to the staff of other schools. The whole thrust of staff planning and presentation in academic subjects is to develop good work habits in the children themselves and enlarge their capacity for concentration and application to any task. Above all, children are taught to think, and the action learning approach is utilised. Thus the child is empowered to continue beyond the school as a life-long learner. Sporting and Cultural Activities Drama and music play an important part for all students. There is opportunity for all pupils to perform drama in the superb Prince Edward Auditorium at Collegiate, and the high standard end of year operetta performed at the same venue rounds out the year. Sporting and social/leisure activities are used to promote the development of a child who is a good mixer but also possessed of a sense of individuality rather than an urge for total conformity. The final socialisation lies in developing awareness of the values and needs of other people, both in groups and the greater range of contract levels.
