In 1931 it was given to the Diocese of Christchurch and has retained its firm allegiance to the Anglican faith. In 1959 the college was established in its present site in Merivale. The School: The college, which includes four main classroom blocks, a large hall/gymnasium, three boarding houses and a Chapel, stands on 30ha of extensive gardens and lawns. It includes tennis courts, a waterbased sports turf for hockey and touch, an astroturf cricket pitch and swimmin pool. Specialist rooms include a library, state of the art Schience/Technology facilities, a drama studio, a dance studio, two computer laboratories and a lecture theatre. The college has a Chaplain who is responsible for services and for the Religious Education programme. The school also employs a full time Counsellor, a careers advisor and a fitness consultant. The Curriculum: Primary – a balanced programme embracing all areas of the curriculum are delivered by specialist teachers in small classes ensuring individual attention and exceptional opportunities. Middle (Years 7-10) – A learning environment that prepares girls for a successful transition to the senior school. All year 9 girls have laptops and a year 10 leadership programme provides opportunities for girls to menor year 7, 8 and 9 students. Senior (Years 11-13) – As well as catering for the National qualifications, the school also offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme for Years 12 and 13 students. It is the only South Island Girls school to do so. Sporting and Cultural Activities: All girls are encouraged to participate in sporting and cultural activities. The school fields teams in the major sports as well as in more specialised sports, eg equestrian, rowing, gymnastics and skiing. Public speaking and debating as well as musical activities are fostered and choral music is a special strength. The school has very strong dance and drama departments. Scholarships and Bursaries: Every year the Board offers the following scholarships which are awarded on the basis of examinations held in the previous June.
