It is in a rural environment one kilometre north of the The School Waihi School is blessed with magnificent grounds and added facilities: a historic school chapel, art room, learning support classroom, gymnasium, climbing wall, adventure playground, astroturf tennis courts, indoor swimming pool, study housing a modern library and computer suite, boarding house, staff residences, sports pavilion, dining room. The historic The grounds accommodate: Summer – three cricket wickets, four practice nets, two astroturf tennis courts and spare fields for softball; Winter – two rugby fields, one soccer field and hockey practice on the Astroturf. The gymnasium is multi-purpose and regularly used for basketball, badminton and gymnastics. In 2006 a climbing wall and cave was built on the end wall of the gym. Used appropriately, these facilities contribute significantly to student education opportunities. The Curriculum A wide range of innovative curriculum is offered. The programmes of work reflect the National Curriculum as a base but there is flexibility. In all classes there is a core curriculum aiming at the mastery of reading, written and oral language and numeracy. Also included in the core curriculum are sciences, technologies, social sciences, music, art, drama, physical education, Spanish language learning and religious education. As appropriate Curriculum Statements will be rewritten to reflect the National Curriculum Framework and reflect the special character and needs of our school community. In addition there is a reading support programme available to identified boys. All classes experience EOTC camps and outdoor education activities. Sporting and Cultural Activities A strong list of sporting opportunities and involvement is catered for all boys. Sporting involvement is compulsory for all boys and all teams are registered in A programme of inter-house competition is held throughout the year with 32 sporting, academic and cultural house shields vied for. Scholarships Four academic scholarships are awarded annually to boys who are in Year 5 and Year 7 at the time of examination.
