Tel: 09 424 3273 (College) Address: Foundation: Built in 2002, Location: The school campus is set in an outstanding location, just 2 minutes from the beautiful The Curriculum: Since opening Wentworth Primary (years 1 to 6) at the beginning of 2008 it has been incredibly rewarding to witness the great gains in achievement and confidence of our primary students. We are fortunate to enjoy class sizes which are significantly smaller than any in the region. Thorough and formative assessment methods mean that staff have very clear knowledge about the learning abilities and needs of each child. Each student benefits from an individualised programme in English and Mathematics while personalised attention in all subjects of the curriculum affords greater opportunities for all children to achieve their personal best. Wentworth students learn to sit examinations from Year 7 where small class sizes and specialist teaching has produced excellent results. From year 7 upwards, our curriculum concentrates on traditional academic subjects, focusing on knowledge, understanding, and the ability to think critically. The learning paradigm is based on a student-centred classroom where the aim is to produce self-motivated learners, skilled in the principles of critical and creative thinking and problem-solving, and able to reason with knowledge and clarity of mind. Students develop the resilience of character to adapt successfully to a rapidly changing technological world. Sports at Wentworth: The Wentworth philosophy emphasises the importance of sport and recreation in developing a well-rounded person; the outstanding Wentworth College Sports Centre complex was designed to accommodate this. A large (four tennis court size), multi-purpose Astroturf playing surface provides an all-weather training and playing environment for PE classes and sports teams. As well as providing for the academic needs of our pupils, the College expects that all students will participate in sporting and recreational activities.
"Sports facilities have always been a feature of the school. The very large gymnasium, dance studio and weights room are all part of a complex that promotes physical activity." Education Review Office 2009 Cultural Activities: Students at Wentworth are encouraged to express themselves artistically. Art work, projects and performances are enthusiastically celebrated by the school community. Musicians and thespians have numerous performance opportunities each year, both as part of their academic assessment and in public concerts and productions. Individual instrument and singing tuition is available and all students are encouraged to add this dimension to their learning experience. The art of public speaking is continually fostered. Students' oratory skills are reinforced through inter-House and inter-school speech and debating competitions. The College dance studio provides the ideal venue for the teaching of contemporary and classical dance. All students participate in dance tuition in the junior school and opportunities exist for more advanced studies.
Tuition Fees: Please contact the school on enquiries@wentworth.school.nz for a full prospectus for either the Primary or College, including a breakdown of current year’s fees.
