Chrissie Badger, Medbury School

Service to Music

Described by a fellow professional as “one of the most passionate, caring and giving teachers I have had the pleasure of working alongside”, Chrissie Badger has provided a total of 46 years of service to music.

Having joined Medbury School in 1999, Chrissie’s role as Director of Music sees her facilitating 200 itinerant music lessons each week via highly-specialised tutors she has assembled.

Chrissie has adeptly accommodated a growing shift in the boys’ interests from classical music towards contemporary jazz and rock music, while also catering for traditional tastes. Her infectious enthusiasm and passion for music has been noted to instill confidence and inspire students to seek out extracurricular music opportunities.

In addition to assembling an extensive extracurricular programme, Chrissie organises the school’s Parent and Teacher Choir. A founding teacher of the multi-school Specialist Music Programme for musically-gifted students, Chrissie also worked for the Christchurch Schools’ Music Festival.

Noted for her “humanity and caring for others”, Chrissie’s tireless dedication is fully reflected in many of the boys excelling in music exams and competitions as well as earning prestigious orchestra, choir, and band representation. The music curriculum and extracurricular programme also rate extremely highly in parent satisfaction surveys.

Chrissie is always available to provide support to students whether this be practical or pastoral in nature. To say her door is always open, is entirely accurate.

Congratulations Chrissie.
