Service to the Scots College Pipe Band
Warmly acclaimed as this country’s “most successful female piper ever”, Scots College Director of Pipes and Drums, Marion Horsburgh, has been described as an “amazing person who has given immensely” during two decades of service at Scots College.
Responsible for recruitment, musical direction, and tutoring piping students from beginners through to New Zealand Youth Pipe Band level and beyond, Marion provides important guidance and encouragement to both those starting their musical journeys and to more experienced pipers.
The culture of inclusivity, fun and professionalism she nurtures in leading the college band to the highest levels of performance, is warmly embraced by students, parents, and the wider community.
Having herself performed to the very highest level internationally and as a current member of the Manawatu Scottish Grade 1 Pipe Band, Marion is greatly respected in the wider pipe band community.
Her expertise and contributions continue to be highly sought after, including by the Royal New Zealand Pipe Bands Association Summer School, which she helps organise and serves as a tutor.
Very proud of her long association with Scots College, Marion is observed to be one of the last people who would seek personal accolades and recognition, yet she is indeed one of the most deserving of such acknowledgement.
Congratulations Marion.
