Russell Gray, St Andrew’s College

Service to Catering

A provider of outstanding catering at St Andrew’s College for almost 25 years, the exceptional “can-do” attitude of Catering Manager Russell Gray was never more to the fore than when having to operate out of a makeshift marquee for two years after the Christchurch earthquakes.

Committed to a culture of continuous improvement and working towards sustainability, Russell has frequently engaged nutritionist expertise in the design of menus, and he ensures all preferences are recognised and catered to. This includes meeting the needs of dedicated athletes, implementing traditional foods or new cuisines to increase the comfort and integration of international students, and ensuring flexibility of mealtimes around busy student programmes.

In addition to his regular catering duties, Russell prepares food for a range of other students or groups and when school facilities are hired out the noted problem-solver always receives positive feedback on the accompanying catering services provided.

Also noted for being very supportive to fellow staff and, having willingly assisted several other schools to review and upgrade their catering provisions, Russell’s generous and caring nature is further reflected by him, and wife Emma, having helped prepare food for the Christchurch City Mission Christmas Lunch over many years.

Congratulations Russell.
