Russell joined ACG Parnell College as Principal in June 2017, following a highly successful nine-year tenure as Principal of Long Bay College in Auckland, preceded by four years as Associate Principal.

During that time, Long Bay College became a high-performing school both academically and in extracurricular activities and earned a reputation for producing confident and successful students.

Previously, Russell was Director of Curriculum at St Peter’s College in Auckland, and Head of Music at Westlake Boys High School.

"The position at ACG Parnell has provided me with a chance to work in a very different area of education," says Russell. "I am excited by the concept of business meeting education, and the simplicity and clarity that brings."

Russell has recently been Chairman of the Auckland Secondary School Centre and is Secondary Principal Representative for the Digital Technologies in the National Curriculum project.

Born in Takapuna, Russell was educated at Auckland Grammar School. He has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Auckland and a certificate in arranging from the famed Berklee College of Music. Education is in his blood – one of his grandfathers was also a school principal.

Russell is a passionate boatie and a gifted musician who has played professionally and worked with artists such as Shirley Bassey. He is married with an adult son and daughter and a greyhound called Wild.
