Two years ago, Board Chair Gareth Jones asked BlackCat Education to help source suitable candidates for the appointment of a new Headmaster for St George’s School, an independent, co‑educational, Anglican day school for years 1‑8 in Whanganui.

"BlackCat Education led an excellent recruitment process for us and were able to use their market reach to access an excellent pool of talent. They provided a templated approach that ensured a robust process was followed. This gave me confidence throughout that we were on track. They outlined that a good process improves the outcome and this proved to be the case,” Gareth explained.

The successful candidate was Julie Gifkins, previously Head of Junior School at St Cuthbert's College in Auckland. Julie was approached on recommendation for the role and the timing turned out to be right.

"The team at BlackCat were professional and genuinely interested throughout the recruitment process,” Julie commented.

“I appreciated them being readily available to answer questions and to check in during the process. I valued the personalised approach."

Over the last two years, St George’s School has gone from strength to strength. The roll has increased significantly. The school is full to capacity and now has waiting lists. Many families are enrolling their children from a very early age.

Gareth added: “I would highly recommend working with BlackCat Education and would be very happy to use them again for recruitment.”
