Mō te tūranga: About the role

  • Plan and deliver differentiated English Language lessons for English Excel and English Language Support classes covering Years 7–10, building reading, writing, speaking and listening skills
  • Assess and monitor students' English language proficiency and progress, using this to set goals and adjust teaching and support programmes accordingly
  • Build regular, meaningful communication and trust with English Language students and their families
  • Work closely with the Director of English Language, the English Language Learning team, and pastoral and international staff to embed English Language strategies across the curriculum
  • Support English Language students to meet the language and literacy demands of NCEA and IB Diploma assessments, liaising with the Director of English Language and Teacher Aides to develop teaching and support across all literacy rich subjects

You will be available to start on January 26th, 2027, and the end of the contract is 9th December 2027.

We offer students dual qualification pathways with both NCEA and the International Baccalaureate. IB teaching experience is welcomed, but training and support will be provided for those new to the programme.

Ngā pūkenga me whai: We're looking for someone with

  • A recognised teaching qualification and current New Zealand teacher registration (or eligibility for registration), along with a recognised English Language/TESOL qualification (e.g. TESOL, CELTA, or equivalent)
  • Proven experience teaching or supporting English Language/EAL students, ideally within a Years 7–13 secondary setting\
  • Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of English language needs
  • Empathy and cultural awareness, with a genuine commitment to the wellbeing and success of English language learners; fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese is an advantage
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect with students and families from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • A collaborative approach, working effectively alongside the Director of English Language, Deans, Counsellors, subject teachers and pastoral staff
