David Ferguson first began his education career in the UK, later moving to New Zealand where he held senior leadership roles at Westlake Boys High School for almost 20 years, with his last 15 as Headmaster. In January 2025 David became the first CEO of The Teachers’ Institute, a charitable trust providing an alternative pathway to becoming a qualified teacher. In 2025 The Teachers' Institute trained 47 teachers with this number rising to 149 in 2026.
