At the annual ISNZ Conference in September, we gained valuable insights into the priorities of New Zealand's independent schools. Inspired by the session featuring Emma Brown, Richard van Dam, Angela Pollock and David Cole, which explored enrichment, modern competencies and rethinking success, we reflected on how these ideas are brought to life through educational travel.
In an increasingly interconnected world, schools are preparing students not only for academic success, but also for life beyond the classroom. Universities and employers are placing greater value on attributes such as cultural intelligence, adaptability, collaboration, communication, leadership and global citizenship. These are competencies that are developed most powerfully through experience.
Well-designed school tours create opportunities for students to step beyond familiar environments, engage with different cultures and perspectives, solve real-world challenges and develop confidence and independence. These experiences complement classroom learning by helping students apply knowledge in authentic settings while building skills that cannot easily be measured through examinations alone.
At Tour Time, we are passionate about creating these moments that matter , ensuring every programme aligns with a school's educational objectives while delivering meaningful and memorable learning experiences.
"Our 10-day Australian Geography tour was an exceptional experience from start to finish. It allowed our students to explore some of Australia's most iconic natural environments. Every aspect of the trip was thoughtfully planned, with knowledgeable guides, seamless logistics and experiences that brought classroom learning to life." St Peter's School, Cambridge, Geography Tour to Australia, July 2026
Feedback such as this reinforces the value of experiential learning. When students can connect classroom concepts with real-world experiences, their learning becomes deeper, more engaging and more memorable.
As educational priorities continue to evolve, we are continually developing opportunities that support schools in delivering exceptional learning outcomes. Recent partnerships with Space Camp and the Dallas Mavericks provide students with unique pathways into STEM, leadership, performance and elite sport. These join our established relationships with professional football clubs, Sports Academy programmes and a wide range of academic, cultural and sporting organisations around the world.
For music departments, we proudly represent leading international performance opportunities including the Australian International Music Festival, Interkultur festivals, the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Music Celebrations International and Generations in Jazz. These events enable students to perform internationally, collaborate with peers from around the world and experience the motivational impact of performing on a global stage.
Our commitment to educational travel extends beyond the programmes we operate. Through volunteer leadership roles within international youth travel organisations and not for profit organisations, our senior team contributes to industry initiatives focused on student wellbeing, safety, accessibility and the future development of youth travel. By participating in these global conversations, we help support and shape best practice across the sector while ensuring our own programmes continue to evolve alongside the needs of schools and students.
This commitment is reflected in our approach to health, safety and programme quality. Tour Time is proud to be the first organisation in Australasia to achieve CSTO (Certified Student Travel Organisation) accreditation, an internationally recognised certification that assesses student travel operators against rigorous standards of safety, risk management, governance and operational excellence.
Combined with our TAANZ financial bonding and specialist school travel insurance programme, this provides schools, parents and tour leaders with confidence that their travel arrangements are supported by robust systems and specialist expertise.
As 2026 draws to a close, we are grateful to work alongside so many of New Zealand's independent schools in creating meaningful educational experiences for their students. We sincerely thank the teachers, tour leaders and school communities who continue to place their trust in us.
We look forward to 2027, with exciting new opportunities, partnerships and programmes ahead, and to continuing our shared commitment to taking learning beyond the classroom and creating moments that matter for students for years to come.
