Job Description

Who are we?
St Andrew’s College is a leading independent, co-educational day and boarding school set in a large, picturesque campus in the heart of Christchurch.  With a roll of 1620, it is the South Island’s only independent school offering places from Pre-school to Year 13.

Founded in 1917 in the Presbyterian faith, with a rich history to draw on, today the College has developed a brand of education which adapts quickly to the demands of the present, while holding true to the values of the College’s founders.  This gives the students a combination of freedom and boundaries which results in young people with roots and wings to flourish in an ever-changing world.

About the Role
The Financial Controller is a key role at St Andrew’s College, instrumental in shaping the College’s financial strategy and supporting informed financial decision-making. This role not only contributes to the College’s current success but also plays a vital part in ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for our students, staff and school community.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic and distinctive environment. In this senior role, you will lead the day-to-day financial operations of the College, overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll, with three direct reports under your guidance.
With an annual turnover of $50 million, St Andrew’s College presents a unique opportunity for an accomplished Financial Controller to make a meaningful and lasting impact. You will work with the leadership team to deliver accurate financial accounting and reporting, annual budgets and 5-year projections for the College, monitor treasury forecasts, and oversee audit processes. You will also lead continuous improvement initiatives across the school’s financial processes including involvement in the upcoming implementation of the school’s new student management system from the finance perspective.

Your responsibilities will also include managing a diverse portfolio of insurance policies and providing in-depth financial analysis to support strategic planning.

About you
You will be a fully qualified accounting professional with proven experience in a senior financial role within a diverse commercial environment. You are results-driven, with a strong focus on strategic processes and continuous improvement.

As a confident leader and change agent, you bring a collaborative mindset and the ability to inspire and guide a small, high-performing team. You are an astute and forward-thinking professional who builds strong relationships across the wider College community.

Your excellent communication skills enable you to present complex financial information clearly to a range of audiences, including senior leadership and the Board of Governors. With a sharp eye for detail and a commitment to excellence, you are both a strategic thinker and a high-performing technical expert.

About us
St Andrew’s College offers a supportive and encouraging workplace and culture. We provide an exceptional environment where outstanding students and staff inspire each other every day to make this a special place. We offer our employees a comprehensive benefits package including discount on tuition fees, health insurance, income protection and life insurance, 4% Kiwisaver, use of our onsite fitness centre as well as other staff benefits.
