Job Description
About Us:
King’s College is a leading independent Anglican secondary co-educational boarding and day-school based in Ōtāhuhu, Auckland. A single-sex male school in Years 9-10, female students join the school in Years 11-13.
The College is a learning environment where students arrive ready to learn and seize opportunities. Life at King’s offers the best all-round education: a strong academic grounding, personal development, and participation in a full spectrum of co-curricular activities.
With a long history of strong academic performance, we understand what it takes to provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed. We are focused on preparing our students for the challenges and opportunities of a changing world. With a roll maximum of 1200 and small class numbers, the College is well placed to ensure that every student thrives.
This College regularly reviews and adapts where needed education and extra-curriculum offerings to meet the evolving needs of students in a modern, multicultural world. The Board, Educational Leadership Team and the COO are hardworking and passionate and will work collaboratively with a Head to get the best out of the College for both staff and students. The College prides itself in having high calibre, dedicated staff and a strong network of alumni.
King’s College has an explicit teaching and learning philosophy. We are a learning community that embraces innovation, creativity and the best learning and thinking strategies. The College is an intellectually and academically rich educational environment, promoting excellence in sport, art and culture.
The King’s College boarding environment is the largest in New Zealand and boarding is seen as a very special part of the School, creating a vibrant, 24/7 campus. The campus features a blend of historic and contemporary buildings, providing an inspiring environment for learning and personal growth. It ranges from our 100-Year-Old Memorial Chapel in the heart of the College to our new and outstanding performing arts centre, Toi Manawa.
The Opportunity:
King’s College is seeking a visionary and innovative educational leader with a commitment to maintaining our high educational standards and demonstrated excellence in secondary teaching and learning. You will have a capacity to develop, communicate and realise a strategic educational vision, linking respect for tradition with the need for measured innovation in response to contemporary needs.
You will be a Head who stands at the heart of a thriving, positive community — a leader who inspires people and fosters a genuine sense of belonging for everyone.
This role demands a motivated and strategic leader who can set goals that enhance student achievement, teaching quality, and overall school performance. The ideal candidate will possess excellent financial acumen together with operational and people management capability.
As the face of King’s College, you will be an exceptional communicator with the mana and presence to engender respect with students, teachers, administrators, parents, alumni, board members, the wider King’s community and with key external stakeholders. You will be an energetic, visible presence on campus and be actively involved in school life fostering a positive, inclusive culture while honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Anglican Christian foundation and character of the College.
As a co-educational senior school, we are open to a male or female Head.
