Key Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes:

As a Scale A Teacher at Southwell School:

  • Teaching and Learning: You'll design, deliver, and assess engaging learning programs that meet the diverse needs of all students, holding high expectations for every learner. You'll skillfully integrate digital technologies to enhance lessons and employ effective teaching methods to keep students engaged and support their progress.
  • Learning Environment: You'll cultivate a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom where students feel respected and supported. Your efforts will help students develop wellbeing, resilience, and independence, and you'll manage behavior with a positive and consistent approach.
  • Assessment for Learning: You'll use a variety of assessment methods to track student progress and use that data to guide your planning and teaching. You'll also provide timely and helpful feedback to students and maintain accurate records of their assessments.
  • Professional Relationships: You'll engage positively with students, colleagues, families, and the wider community. This means collaborating effectively with your team on shared planning and communicating clearly in all situations.
  • Professional Learning: You'll show a strong commitment to ongoing professional development, consistently reflecting on your teaching, actively seeking feedback, and participating in school-wide learning opportunities.
  • Contribution to School Life: You'll actively support the school's values, vision, and strategic goals. This includes participating in school events and extra-curricular activities, and taking on any other duties as needed.

    What We Are Looking For:

    Here are the essential skills and attributes we're seeking:
  • Current New Zealand teacher registration and practicing certificate.
  • A positive and flexible approach to teamwork and collaboration.
  • Proven experience in a co-educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent presentation and report writing abilities.
  • A genuine willingness to engage with the school’s vision and values.
  • Strengths in specific curriculum areas (as previously listed, such as inquiry, numeracy, structured literacy, etc.).
  • Willingness to contribute to the extracurricular offerings of the school, coaching a sport.
