Our 2025 Professional Learning and Development (PLD) programme commenced in March with our AP and DP Regional Networking events held in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. This new initiative brought together 40 leaders from across the motu to encourage networking amongst schools. We received strong interest to make this an annual, even twice-yearly event. Thanks to St Andrew’s College, Samuel Marsden Collegiate School and Saint Kentigern Boys’ School for hosting these events.
In early April the Leadership for Middle Leaders and Reconnect workshops were led by Neil McDonald from True North Development. This programme focused on developing effective middle and senior leaders to create high-performing teams with an emphasis on emotional intelligence and evidence-based leadership. We received lots of positive feedback about the Middle Leadership workshop:
‘Absolutely outstanding course and presenter. I definitely got some tools to take and try out.’
‘A great presentation style which allowed for feedback and feed forward.’
‘The second day practicals were fantastic.’

The Reconnect workshop brought together the cohort who had attended the Middle Leadership workshop in 2024, and presented the opportunity to explore the next-level topics that Middle Leaders often find they are challenged on. Participant’s feedback:
‘Fabulous, thank you. I love your Professional Learning and already want to come back next year.’
‘So useful, great thinking and tools to use.’
ISNZ is committed to continuing to invest in supporting these critical Middle Leadership roles within our member schools. Thanks to Rangi Ruru Girls’ School and Medbury School for hosting both events.
21 people attended the Aspiring Principals Seminar at the beginning of May. This was a workshop-style event designed to provoke and inspire participants to reflect on their own strengths, weaknesses, and professional development needs as they progress on their career journey. The seminar provided an opportunity to network and offer mutual support among individuals. Thanks to St Margaret’s College for hosting this event.
Sharing insights and solutions addressing unique or common problems was the main focus of the Heads Forum, drawing 24 Heads and Principals from around the motu. Heads and Principals seized the opportunity to network and build upon existing relationships.
“Sometimes we put off taking time out but how good it was to chat, share, meet new people and enjoy some great speakers. I felt completely refreshed after working through the holidays, so it was very much appreciated.” Heather McRae, Principal, Diocesan School for Girls
